Paint Protection Film

Paint Protection Film (PPF), also known as clear bra, is a transparent, durable layer of film applied to a vehicle’s painted surfaces to protect the paint from damage caused by everyday wear and tear. PPF is designed to absorb impact, prevent scratches, and shield the car’s finish from environmental factors like road debris, dirt, and UV rays.

Material

Thermoplastic Urethane: The film is made from a type of plastic called thermoplastic urethane, which is flexible, resistant to scratches, and offers excellent protection.

Thickness: The film typically ranges from 6 to 8 mils in thickness, offering a balance between protection and flexibility. (A mil is one-thousandth of an inch, so the film is quite thin but still durable.)

Self-Healing Properties: Some PPFs have self-healing capabilities, meaning minor scratches and swirl marks can fade away with heat or sunlight, allowing the film to "heal" over time and restore its smooth surface.

Installation

Precision Fit: PPF is typically applied by professional installers who ensure that the film fits perfectly on the car’s painted surfaces. The film is custom-cut for each vehicle model, ensuring optimal coverage.

Application Process: The process involves cleaning the vehicle thoroughly, applying a solution to aid with the installation, and then carefully laying the film on the paint surface. The film is smoothed out to remove air bubbles and wrinkles.

Time-Consuming: Depending on the size of the vehicle and the areas being covered (such as the full front bumper, hood, or entire vehicle), installation can take several hours to a couple of days.

Coverage Options

Full Coverage: Some vehicle owners choose to cover their entire car with PPF for maximum protection, although this is more expensive and requires more time for installation.

Partial Coverage: More commonly, PPF is applied to the areas most prone to damage, such as:

  • Front Bumper

  • Hood

  • Side Mirrors

  • Door Edges

  • Fenders

  • Side Skirts

  • Rear Bumper (especially for vehicles with a lot of loading/unloading)

Custom Areas: Depending on the vehicle's usage and the owner's needs, custom areas can be protected, such as the windshield or roof.

Advantages

Invisible Protection: The main appeal of PPF is that it provides strong protection without altering the vehicle’s appearance.

Enhanced Shine: For glossy films, the PPF enhances the car’s shine, making it appear even more polished.

Long-Term Cost Savings: By preventing paint damage and preserving the vehicle's condition, PPF can save money on costly paint repairs and touch-ups in the long run.

Customization: For enthusiasts with custom paint jobs or rare colors, PPF can preserve the investment in the vehicle's appearance, keeping it looking new for years.

Purpose & Benefits

Protection Against Road Debris: PPF acts as a shield against small rocks, stones, gravel, and other road debris that could otherwise chip or scratch the paint.

Scratch and Swirl Resistance: The film provides an extra layer of protection against scratches from things like car washes, tree branches, or other minor abrasions.

UV Protection: Paint Protection Film protects against the sun’s harmful UV rays, which can cause fading and oxidation of the vehicle's paint over time.

Stain Resistance: The film makes the vehicle’s paint easier to clean by preventing dirt, bird droppings, sap, and other contaminants from adhering to the surface.

Chemical Resistance: PPF is also resistant to some chemicals, like road salts, oil, and other contaminants that may damage the paint.

Increased Resale Value: By keeping the paint job in pristine condition, PPF can help maintain the resale value of the vehicle, as it prevents the appearance of chips, scratches, and fading.

Floor Graphics

Purpose: Used in retail stores, event spaces, or trade shows to draw attention, provide directions, or promote a message or product.

Design: Floor graphics are printed with slip-resistant vinyl and can be designed to fit a variety of floor spaces, from walkways to aisles.

Benefits: Durable, long-lasting, and slip-resistant, these graphics help guide people or create an engaging visual experience.

Maintenance

Cleaning: The film can be cleaned like the rest of the vehicle. Mild soap and water are typically sufficient, though some professional cleaners recommend using a non-abrasive car shampoo to prevent damaging the film.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals: To extend the life of the film, it’s important to avoid harsh chemicals, waxes, or abrasive cleaners, which could compromise the film’s surface.

Self-Healing: For films with self-healing properties, light scratches or swirl marks may disappear over time with heat or sunlight exposure.

Apperance

Clear and Glossy Finish: Paint Protection Film is transparent, meaning it doesn’t change the color or look of the vehicle’s paint. Many films come with a glossy finish, enhancing the shine of the paint and maintaining the vehicle's original look.

Matte and Satin Options: There are also matte or satin finishes available, which are suitable for vehicles with matte paint jobs or for those who want a less shiny appearance.

Vehicle Graphics
and Decals

Purpose: Used for branding, advertising, or decorative purposes on vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans, and fleets.

Design: Vinyl decals or full wraps are applied to the vehicle's surface, either partially or fully, with the design tailored to include logos, text, or eye-catching graphics.

Benefits: Durable, weather-resistant, and ideal for creating mobile advertisements that travel wherever the vehicle goes.

Self-Healing Technology

How It Works: The self-healing feature of some PPFs comes from the thermoplastic material's ability to re-melt and smooth over minor scratches and swirl marks. This is typically activated by heat from the sun, a heat gun, or warm water.

Effectiveness: While it can’t heal deep scratches or gouges, self-healing PPF is effective at removing light abrasions and keeping the film looking clean and smooth.
